Dr. James Warner, DMD
Dr. Warner is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry in 2000 and has practiced in Mt. Pleasant since 2002. Dr. Warner is a volunteer dentist at East Cooper Community Outreach and the Carolina Cleft Lip and Palate team. He has dedicated his career to providing you with the best that dentistry has to offer. Dr. Warner is continually educating himself & his staff on the newest dental techniques & approaches to provide your family with advanced, antiseptic, comfortable & personalized dental care. He has completed over 500 hours of continuing dental education.
The doctor has completed courses in cosmetic dentistry, oral conscious sedation, endodontics, implants & TMJ therapy. He is a member of the American Dental Association & a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (something fewer than 5% of dentists achieve). He also is a member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church & a volunteer at East Cooper Community Outreach. Dr. Warner lives in Mount Pleasant with his wife Amy & their two daughters.
Dr. Catherine Kotz
Dr. Catherine Kotz is a 2005 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina Dental School. She graduated at the top of her class and was awarded membership to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, our nation’s dental honor society. In 2006, Dr. Kotz completed a year residency at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry program. She remained in Boston for another year and worked in a general dental office near Boston, MA. Then, Dr. Kotz and her husband, Jeff, moved to his hometown of Tallahassee, FL, for three years.
Jeff and Catherine decided they missed the Lowcountry too much, and they headed back to the Charleston area in 2011 to make it their home.
Dr. Kotz began working at East Cooper Dental with Dr. Jim Warner in the summer of 2011. She loves helping people achieve a healthy smile and loves the wonderful patients she meets every day at ECD. Dr. Kotz works in the mornings at East Cooper Dental and spends the afternoons chasing after her two energetic her two little boys, Clayton (5) and Bentham (3).
When she is not working, Dr. Kotz likes to spend her time outdoors running, biking, attempting surfing, and, of course, enjoying the beautiful beaches.
Dr. Kenneth Backman, Periodontist
Dr. Kenneth Backman is a graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, completing the dental internship program at Mount Sinai Hospital and receiving his specialty training in Periodontology at Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry. He is a past president of the Brookline Dental Society, Greater Boston Dental Society, Metropolitan District Dental Society, as well as the Massachusetts Periodontal Society. He has lectured on the treatment of periodontal diseases in every major city in the United States.
He is a Member of the American Dental Association, South Carolina Dental Association, Fellow of the American College of Dentists and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
While Dr. Backman trained and practiced in Boston, MA, for 40 years, he currently resides in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Dr. Backman enjoys boating, windsurfing, and tennis. He is also a volunteer at Our Lady of Mercy Emergency Dental Clinic on Johns Island.
